中国工程院院士,南京农业大学“钟山学者”特聘教授,博士生导师,园艺学院学术委员会主任委员,现任国家现代农业(梨)产业技术体系首席科学家、国家梨改良中心学术委员会主任委员、农业农村部果树专家指导组成员、江苏省梨工程研究中心主任。获全国创新争先奖、全国优秀科技工作者、全国百篇优秀博士学位论文指导教师等荣誉称号。
40年来致力于梨分子遗传基础、种质创新及栽培研究与应用,并取得系列重要成果,为梨产业的发展进步作出了突出贡献。以第一完成人获国家科技进步二等奖2项、省部级一等奖4项,入选中国农业科学十大进展1项、农业农村部农业主推技术2项;以第一完成人育成梨新品种8个、获授权发明专利54件、制定标准21项;以第一或通讯作者发表论文448篇,其中在Genome Research、Genome Biology、Nature Communications、The Plant Cell、Molecular Plant等期刊发表SCI论文187篇,在梨领域SCI论文数量排名世界第一(Web of Science);主编(含共同主编)《梨学》《中国梨树志》《中国梨遗传资源》等著作;培养研究生172名,其中获全国五一劳动奖章及入选教育部特聘教授、国家杰青等多人。
